Mission and Vision

Mission Statement

To educate, mobilize, and raise our voices to support efforts that demand a change that leads to domestic violence, advocating a positive change within the system that can lead to oppression. Educating, and empowering victims of abuse through lived experience.

Vision Statement

To impact our communities on ending domestic violence by partnering with multi-sectors in order to enhance awareness service and support in our community.

Break the Silence

All relationships start with two people who are madly in love with each other. But this loving relationship can turn into abuse and violence when one seeks power and control over their partner.

Love should not hurt. However, domestic abuse still happens everywhere — it can be affecting you, your sister/brother, or your best friend right now. Whether it is physical, mental, or emotional abuse, a victim may feel helpless, alone, and confused. The effects can also result in lifelong issues even after the victim has left an abusive environment.

Abusers only thrive in silence. So, if you are suspecting that a friend or a family member is involved in an abusive relationship, you should remember that reaching out is the first step to healing. It is now time to end abuse by speaking up and empowering the victims/survivors. This is where we come in.

Palms Upon My Hands Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to ending domestic violence by conducting workshops and outreach programs in communities throughout the Bronx, Harlem, and Brooklyn, New York.

A Message From Our Founder, Marilyn Cruz

“Hi! I am Marilyn Cruz, and I am a survivor of domestic violence and sexual abuse. I established Palms Upon My Hands Inc. to advocate against domestic abuse and bring awareness within our communities. Together with other survivors, we provide workshops and other activities that will help victims/survivors to cope and heal.

My organization builds on a relationship with everyone who comes to seek our help. I am here to show them that we can walk them through the whole process and not just pass them to other resources or agencies. It will be a long journey, but you can recover and move on.”

Innovation Statement

We adapt to change and creativity by seeking new and improved ways to fulfill the organization mission, and vision productively.
